How to Talk So Others Will Listen

The key to developing your ability to get others to listen to you is to have the intention to improve yourself in this area.

There are many techniques that can help you command the influence of others, including:

  • It all starts with charisma. Charisma is the energy you present. It seems like an elusive quality, but it’s really a matter of making others feel good in your presence and having the freedom to be yourself. Practice paying attention to your energy
  • Work on your body language. Think tall and upright, without being stiff. Be open and take up space.
  • Practice Mindset Mastery. Have several affirmations that you repeat multiple times per day. Fall back on them when your self-talk is negative. Override the negative with something positive.
  • Be in the moment. Really listen to the other person and be 100% present. If your mind starts to wander, focus on your surroundings and your breathing. Practice being Present.
  • Being a good listener means that you’re actually listening and allowing the other person to have her time to speak. You shouldn’t just be waiting for your chance to speak again.
  • Be a master at developing rapport. It takes a little practice, but it pays off handsomely. When you’re in rapport, the other person is very open to anything you say.
  • Set Goals & Measure your progress. This not only includes progress toward your goal of getting others to listen to you, but also how well you’re doing with your self-talk, level of focus, and more.
  • Practice, practice, practice. The more you practice, the more you’ll develop. But practice intelligently; have a plan and work on the most important things.

Getting others to listen is within your ability. Work on it every day. With an effective plan and practice, you’ll soon be the one that everyone listens to with rapt attention.
